Full Tilt $750k Guarantee Won by Poker Pro
May 12, 2008By: Jennifer Newell Full Tilt Poker is known for its Big Money Sundays, and one of its most popular Sunday promotions is the $750,000 Guarantee. The field is always a solid mix of pro players and amateurs, but on Sunday, May 4th, a pro by the name of Matthew Hilger took more than $132,000 in prize money for his first place finish.
Most poker players are familiar with Hilger’s work as an author, publisher, and long-time pro. One of his most popular books has been “Internet Texas Hold’em,” which was followed up by an online poker community, poker forums, and strategy articles. His work can also be found in numerous poker magazines, the Wall Street Journal, and the Atlanta-Journal Constitution.
The Full Tilt win was what Hilger hopes is in a line of successes. Since his daughter was just born in April and he won this recent Full Tilt tournament, he is excited for what is to come in the following months, namely the 2008 World Series of Poker. Having cashed in the WSOP main event in three of the last four years, he has reason to be positive. “I definitely feel more ready than I ever have as I have played a lot more online than in past years so I won’t be rusty going into the WSOP.”
Hilger also has book projects in the works, most notably a soon-to-be-published book of poker hands from contributors and well-known online poker pros Eric “Rizen” Lynch, Jon “Pearljammer” Turner, and Jon “Apestyles” Van Fleet.
Full Tilt Poker has proven – in Hilger’s case and many others – to be an ideal training ground for big poker tournaments, whether online or live. With the currently running Full Tilt Online Poker Series (FTOPS) VIII, over $10 million is up for grabs, in addition to prize money in other daily and weekly tournaments and cash games.
