Planets Now Battling on PokerStars
Jun 10, 2008By: G.L. Hodges PokerStars weekly out of this world Leader Board promotion is proving to be a huge hit with players. This relatively new “Battle of the Planets” promotion, gives Sit n’ Go players a chance to compete for a huge windfall…..more than $3,000,000 a year in cash prizes!
How it works: Multi-player Sit n’ Go tournaments are separated into eight divisions, all named for planets in the solar system. The battle is open to everyone, no matter what skill level or what stakes they can afford to play. The name of the planet represents a different range of buy-ins, from Mercury ($1-$2.99) up to Jupiter ($300+). The eight planet divisions are then split into two individual Leader Boards, with the first, the Low Orbit Leader Board being tailored for casual and recreational players. The second is the High Orbit Leader Board, which is geared towards players of higher volume.
Plus, to make the prize distribution fair, each planet division has its own weekly prize pool, which is doled out evenly between the two Leader Boards. This format gives every player, regardless of ability, a chance to win some big cash prizes.
How it works: Every time you cash in a regular multi-player Sit n’ Go that has less than 40 players, you will be awarded Leader Board points. In any given week, players have a set number of games to accumulate as many points as they can. For this promotion, the week starts at 12:00:00 a.m. on Sunday and ends at 11:59:59 p.m. on Saturday. For every eligible Sit n’ Go tournament you cash in, you will be awarded points based on the buy-in/planet level. However many points you accumulate will determine which Orbit, either High or Low that you qualify for.
At the low end of the ladder, the Mercury Division has a weekly prize pool of $3,000. This division pays out the top 100 places from $150 for first to $5 for 51st to 100th place.
At the top rung is the Jupiter Division which covers the buy-ins from $300 upwards. With a total weekly prize pool of $10,000, this division pays out the top 5 places with 1st place paying $1,500 and 5th paying out $500. In addition, the top ten players on each leader board also receive a ticket to the monthly Battle of the Planets triple shootout, where they can win even more cash.
