Team PokerStars Shines at the WSOP
Jun 16, 2008By: G.L. Hodges As event after event fades into the poker history books, the PokerStars team is glowing strong at the WSOP.
The sparkling diamond encrusted championship bracelets aren’t the only shining stars of this year’s event, so are PokerStars team members Daniel Negreanu and Barry Greenstein.
Adding to his already impressive collection of three WSOP bracelets, Negreanu collected a fourth circle of bling recently when he took down the $2,000 Limit Hold 'em event. Holding the chip lead throughout most of the event, he seemed to be the odds on favorite and he didn’t disappoint. In spite of a few big hands being cracked, his lucky star continued to shine as he took home the $204,874 first-place prize.
"The last time I won a bracelet was this event in 2004," he said after his victory. "I love the game. You just have to keep focused." He proved his amazing focus by being able to recoup after getting hands like Aces then Kings beat.
As Nolan Dalla presented him the bracelet, Negreanu slipped it over his hand. With a grin, he said, "I might have to take a few links out. I have pretty skinny wrists." Whether he was wearing his new wrist adornment or not, Kid Poker’s next shining moment came when he finished fifth in the $2,000 buy-in Seven Card Stud Event, taking home $21,321. How many bracelets can one guy wear? We will have to wait for the end of the WSOP to find out. But for now, for Daniel Negreanu at least, it is two on each wrist.
But Daniel isn’t the only shining star of the PokerStars team…some of his team mates are glimmering too.
Barry Greenstein placed an impressive third in one of the toughest final tables ever - the NL Deuce-7 Draw event. For his victory, Barry added $225,000 and another top finish to his long list of tournament achievements. Teammate Joe Hachem made it to the top 100 in the $2,500 Pot-Limit Hold 'em tournament, while newbie team member Chad Brown made it to 11th place, winning $34,700 in the same event.
The two other PokerStars team members who showed their stuff at the tables and cashed were: Noah Boeken who won$5,596 in the $1,500 Triple Shootout and Humberto Brenes, who won almost $35,000 in the $5,000 No-Limit Hold 'em event.
Stay tuned as this amazing galaxy of shooting stars continues to shine at the WSOP! Expect to see more cashes, more top finishes, and more bracelets won by the stars of the PokerStars team!
